The Kyneton Lions Club is involved in a number of community projects to raise money for people in need and is looking for more volunteers to join them. If you want to make a difference and meet with like-minded people, the Lions Club may be the group for you!

Established in 1953, the Kyneton Lions Club was the first country club of its kind in Victoria and the twentieth in Australia. Their first major project was raising funds for the Kyneton Mechanics Playground Reserve which they did by holding a gymkhana at the Kyneton Agricultural Showgrounds. The club also played an integral role in securing grants and money to establish an aged care home in Kyneton in 1959 which it is still running today.

More recently the Lions Club have donated a cheque to the Kyneton Hospital’s new chemotherapy unit, had a sausage sizzle for Kids For Cancer, donated awards to students in various schools and has been supporting Kids Flip, which assists youth who are at risk. The Lions Club have a kids train and runs rides at local events and fairs. Any money raised is then forwarded to community projects.

We spoke to Jenny Wyatt, the current president of the club, who has been a member for 14 years. She thoroughly enjoys the socialisation her role brings, as well as attending to community areas. Jenny said that the club currently has 15 members but is seeking more volunteers of any age. If you are interested in joining you can contact Jenny directly or attend one of the Lions Club weekly meetings at 7 pm on Thursday at the Watts Pavilion. If you cannot donate any time, you could give a monetary donation to any of the projects the club supports, or donate to the Lions Club directly.

Make the move to Kyneton and enjoy living in a community that avidly supports its people.
