Kyneton – A Welcoming Community

Kyneton Golf Club is just one of the many draw cards when moving to the region. Regan Williams, who moved to Kyneton seven years ago, is one such person who has settled into the country lifestyle with his wife and daughters. Whilst he commutes to Melbourne during the week, when he is home Regan is very engaged with the community and Kyneton Golf Club.

Founded in 1900, the club has 240 members and the course at its current location was designed by well known architect, Vernon Morcom. Regan says the course was built totally on volunteer labour and can attest to its exceptional design saying, “Each hole presents its own challenge and it really is a luxury to have such an incredible layout on our doorstep. . .a hidden gem and only a few minutes from our town centre.”

Regan joined the club last year, then its committee in November, to support with the on boarding process of new members. He welcomes them to the club, usually playing a round with them, wanting to pass on the welcoming experience he received when he joined himself.

Regan has found this welcoming nature reflective of the Kyneton community as a whole, citing it as his family’s number one love of the town. When asked about the benefits of golf, he says they are threefold: the social aspect; the health benefits from being active; and the competition, not only against others but against yourself and your own ability.

He recommends newcomers to the town join a sporting club or group. “Kyneton Golf Club is a great option if you’ve had a past hiatus from the game or are looking to pick it up new. Golf is a special game that brings people together at all stages and walks of life. . .I’ll be part of the club for many years to come.”
